MOWYLA... Move on with your Life... and who knows what you might find just around the corner!
There is so much around us that our routines and habits veil from our eyes… the inside of a shell, the whorls on a discarded tree stump, the way a branch and a stem come together, light and shadow, pattern and symmetry, flaws and perfection.
Mowyla collects from material from the wild… from uninhabited islands, slopes of extinct volcanoes, pebbly beaches, ancient shale screes, tropical forests, verdant meadows…
The attempt is not to create or construct but rather to unveil what already is there and has been there across the ages.
About Us
Gideon Arulmani
Gideon is a Clinical Psychologist and holds a PhD in counselling. Interested in handwork, art and design since he was a child, Gideon began working on the Mowyla concept in the early part of 2009.
He is aso a photographer and has made documentaries and films for children. Wine making is a passion. He has a small vineyard and makes an Indian version of Shiraz. He is working on two novels in the historical fiction genre. He is also experimenting with storytelling as a form of counselling.
Although he is a career psychologist, GIdeon is pretty confused about his own career! “You only live once – so pull out all the stops…” is his philosophy.
Ningappa Alkatte
A farmer from a small village called Alkatte in North Karnataka, Ningappa arrived in Bangalore in search of bright city lights. He quickly grew to intensely dislike the hustle of Bangalore and decided to go back to the peace of his village. On his way home he happened to meet Gideon and decided to work with him. He is presently learning English, but remains convinced that it wasn’t such a bad thing that he didn’t go to school!Ningappa, may not able to read and write (signing my name is like drawing a picture he says!) but he is supremely gifted with his hands and possesses an intuitive orientation to mechanics and a highly tuned aesthetic sensitivity. Ningappa is the craftsman on the Mowyla team.
Handmade to highlight what would otherwise bypass the eye... Mowyla calls you to look beyond what’s already there!
